The Kern County Fire Department will begin open burning of hazard reduction fuels at 8am Saturday, depending on weather conditions. A burn permit is required, and burning is only allowed on permissive days. Residents can apply for permits online through the appropriate Air Pollution Control District. Bakersfield College's Launchpad Program received a $1 million grant from the city to support local entrepreneurs. Since 2023, the program has helped hundreds of small businesses with resources, coaching, and funding. The 2.0 Entrepreneur Program starts February 3, 2025. Previous recipients, like Fur and Feathers Luxury Pet Resort, credit the program for their success.
