Brief Update…

Collecting Donations for L.A.

Bakersfield radio stations and local evangelist Ray Ballard are collecting donations for Los Angeles disaster relief on January 17 at 88.3 Life FM, from 9am to 5:30pm. Items needed include sleeping bags, pet food, and diapers. The first 100 donors will receive tickets to Bakersfield Mouse-Con, a Disney-themed event on January 18-19 at the fairgrounds.

“Night and Day in Bakersfield” Mural

Jesse Moreno and his team are completing Bakersfield's largest street mural, "Night and Day in Bakersfield," spanning over 18,000 square feet under Highway 178 and 204. Featuring local flora, fauna, and landscapes, the mural transforms a dull concrete area into vibrant art. Funded by Caltrans through the Clean California Initiative and managed by the Arts Council of Kern, this project celebrates community identity and marks Bakersfield’s evolving creative economy. Completion is expected within two weeks.

Spray Safe Event

The 19th annual Spray Safe event at the Kern County Fairgrounds promotes farmer safety and ethical pesticide use through bilingual workshops and demonstrations. Over 700 participants gather to learn about advanced technology, safe practices, and emergency response. Free and open to the public, the event emphasizes protecting food supply, reducing accidents, and fostering cooperation in agriculture. The event takes place today, 1/17, at 7am to 1pm.
