Brief Update
🚗Petition Calls for Tougher DUI Penalties🍻
A Bakersfield law firm, Chain Cohn Clark, has launched a petition urging stricter penalties, license suspensions, and alcohol monitoring for first-time DUI offenders. The petition, with over 1,000 signatures, calls on state officials, including Governor Gavin Newsom, to act. Attorney Matt Clark and victim advocate Carla Pearson argue current penalties are too lenient, allowing repeat offenses with tragic consequences.

Donate for a Chance to Win🩸🎟️
Houchin Community Blood Bank (HCBB) is offering a chance to win four 3-day passes to the Lightning in a Bottle festival for successful blood donors from March 31 to April 5. The festival takes place May 21–25, 2025, at Buena Vista Lake, Calif. HCBB urgently needs O-positive and O-negative blood but encourages all donors to participate. Appointments can be made online or by calling 661-323-4222. Walk-ins are welcome. Donors must meet health and age requirements.

🍇Funding Cuts🍗
USDA funding cuts are forcing Kern County’s CAPK Food Bank to reduce food distribution by 33%, impacting around 5,000 families per month. In 2024, the food bank provided over 10.5 million pounds of food, but with 13 USDA deliveries canceled, resources are dwindling as demand continues to rise. With state funding strained, the food bank relies on private donations. Officials urge the community to contact representatives to address food insecurity and support Bakersfield’s most vulnerable families.
