Brief Update…

Clean Air Act

Nonprofits sued the EPA, claiming it violated the Clean Air Act by failing to enforce federal pollution standards in California's San Joaquin Valley, one of the most polluted regions in the U.S. The lawsuit demands the EPA act on overdue air quality plans and address regulatory failures. Despite some recent improvements, the valley remains the most polluted U.S. region for fine particulates. If successful, the suit could enforce stricter regulations, including wood-burning limits and earlier smog checks, while risking federal highway funding for California.

E. Coli Outbreak - Carrots

The CDC and FDA report a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots from Grimmway Farms, affecting 18 states, including California, with 39 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and one death. Multiple brands and sizes of organic carrots are recalled. Consumers should discard affected products, wash surfaces, and monitor for symptoms like severe diarrhea or dehydration. CDC outbreak page for more information.

Anyone who attended the Grimm Family Carrot Festival at CSUB this past weekend, be sure to monitor any symptoms.
