Brief Update…
Shops Closing
Economic challenges, inflation, and shifting consumer habits are causing Bakersfield businesses like Simply Me & Baby Me and Sugar Daddy's Women's Boutique to close. Rising vendor costs and competition from online shopping are key factors. Due to economic pressures, this is a nationwide trend challenging small business survival.

Almond Orchard Cut Down
Kern County continues to lead California in almond orchard removals, cutting 13,895 acres this year amid tough market conditions. Despite this, global demand is growing, with record almond shipments exceeding production. Prices have rebounded to around $2.50 per pound, providing hope for growers after years of financial strain. Almonds remain vital to Kern's agriculture, generating $892 million last year as the county's fourth highest-grossing crop.
